NEW BEDFORD -- A convicted sex offender recently released on probation and considered a threat to the public was arrested several days ago for allegedly failing to file his address with police, in violation of a law requiring him to notify the community of his whereabouts.
The arrest of Michael Fuchs, 52, of 37 Bullard St., is a sign that the Massachusetts Sex Offender Registry Board is tracking down sex offenders that pose a threat to the public and that local police are working to hold the offenders to the law.
"That’s why the system is working," said Charles McDonald, director of communications and legislation for the state Sex Offender Registry Board.
