Offenders have until Wednesday to register

Michigan — (01/13/03)--Many who are concerned about sex offenders living in their community turn to the state registry for some comfort. But police in Michigan say more than 1,000 rapists, child molesters, pornographers and other sex offenders have slipped through the cracks.

Police simply don't have enough money or manpower to track everyone down, which has the ACLU questioning the accuracy of the list. A head count of Michigan sex offenders is underway. All 31,045 are to report to police by Wednesday.
