Educate Your Child Because you cannot be in all places at all times, it's important that you give your child proper guidelines for steering clear of child molesters. This does not mean scaring them to death. If they are afraid, they can't learn how to be smart and keep themselves safe. Children simply need appropriate guidelines and they need information on how to handle specific situations. Remember, there are at least four million child molesters out there in our world today. As you protect your children in today's uncertain world, keep in mind the words of one pedophile who stalked young boys in malls. "I made advances, yes, but I never forced myself on a boy. He is not deaf, dumb, and blind; he is aware of innuendo, dirty jokes, overt sexuality. Parents have themselves to blame if their sons haven't learned the values and morals they need to say not to a man like me." (Source: Redbook, April, 1992) This is typical of the self-justifying nature of child molesters. They blame the children for not resisting their advances. They also blame the parents for not educating their children. Further, they want you to think that pedophilia is just another sexual preference. They believe it is their "right" to have sex with children. This is a tragic perspective on human sexuality with devastating personal, family and social consequences.
