Hi! We're glad you're interested in learning more about STOP SEX OFFENDERS. It all began after an informative mom watched a television news story back in 1997 about sex offender registries. Since there was no National Sex Offender Registry, nor any one website that contained links to all of the sex offender registries on the Internet, the decision to create a national sex offender registry became very clear. STOP SEX OFFENDERS registry listings were originally hosted on MyParenTime.com, and in 1999, STOP SEX OFFENDERS was moved to its own domain. MyParenTime.com, our partner site, is a great source of informative content -- and it's not only for parents. :)

STOP SEX OFFENDERS' most important goal (other than informing our Internet visitors), is to help protect our most precious gift...our children. We'd also like to help protect you and your family. We believe that someone who's informed is armed with a weapon of knowledge. We are your one-stop source for child and family safety information, currently focusing on protecting yourself against offenders. On our website you'll find very informative safety tips, solutions, & child abuse information. We offer a free printable copy of our exclusive Child ID System, which will enable you to conveniently carry your child's most important information with you at all times; and we keep our state registry listings up-to-date and try to answer as many questions as we can for our visitors. Although, if you have a question on a particular state registry, please email that website's administrator directly. Please...talk to your children about dangerous situations, and let them know that there are ways to keep safe, and maneuvers to try if they're ever stuck in a dangerous situation. We want to empower children with knowledge!

About the state registries: at this time, most states have enacted laws that allow the public to find out who the registered sex offenders are in their area. This law, called "Megan's Law" is in honor of 7-year old Megan Kanka of Hamilton Township New Jersey who was raped and murdered in 1994 by a twice-convicted sex offender who lived in her neighborhood. Her parents lobbied for laws that would allow the public to know when convicted sex offenders moved into their neighborhood. In May 1996, Megan's Law was established. It requires states to disclose information about sex offenders to the public. We have one of the first, most comprehensive and up-to-date listings of online state registry links, and it's manually updated, which is a very tedious and time-consuming process. If your state does not have an online sex offender registry, please visit this page and voice your concern to your representatives.

We exist because you have the right to know - who is registered as a sex offender; what you can do to help keep your child safe; & other family safety information. A sex offender could be a person across town, your neighbor across the street, or someone you know very well. Sex Offender Registries are not the cure-all of stopping these crimes from happening - they should be used only as a "tool." These lists are not 100% accurate, and there are also many offenders that are not registered, for one reason or another. Besides this fact, there is much abuse that happens within one's own family...so the idea that a sex offender is always a stranger, is not true. Please don't be led into a false sense of security because of these registries.

We are not associated with any other website, organization, or agency, so we depend solely on visits to our sponsors through our banners, purchases of our official merchandise, and donations. View our Press Page and read more about our community of websites.

Due to our popularity, we are finding numerous websites that are breaking copyright laws by using our information without permission. Please, dealing with copyright and bandwidth offenders (sites linking to our images) takes precious time away from our child safety work. Please view our copyright information.

To show our support of the many causes that exist today, STOP SEX OFFENDERS has donated all bottom banner space to The AdCouncil, and other non-profit organizations and worthy causes whose purpose is to raise awareness, inspire action, and save lives. We encourage everyone to support us in this crusade to help those who need it.

You can also get to the STOP SEX OFFENDERS website by pointing your browser to http://www.childandfamilysafety.com. It's an easy way to remember safety. :) Our ONLY valid registered domains are: stopsexoffenders.com, stopsexoffenders.net, stopsexoffenders.org and childandfamilysafety.com. We are NOT associated with any other website with similar names or with hypenated domain names. Be careful of other websites that may pretend to be STOP SEX OFFENDERS -- there is no other!

We invite you to join our once per month email list so you can be kept informed of all the new things that are added to our community each month. We want My ParenTime to be your place for information, and we want to help keep children safe. Thanx to all of you for your support, and we will continue to bring you articles, resources, & other safety topics that inform, educate, & entertain.

See who's noticed us: View STOP SEX OFFENDERS' PRESS page, and some of the very kind Comments that we've received from our visitors.

We read all emails and try to respond to all that require such. But there are times when we will be unable to respond immediately due to time constraints. We do appreciate your patience during these times!
